Truck Series championship contender Carson Hocevar has shared his thoughts on how NASCAR should approach the marketing of the sport to better connect with the fans. He wants the sport to stop marketing the sports around just crashes and track incidents. Hocevar proposed a return of some of the techniques from the past.
The future Spire Motorsports Cup driver was asked on X what he thinks should be done to connect the sport more with the fans. In response, he posted that the sport needs to give the driver and sponsors more space as they did in the 2000s, where funny commercials surrounding certain drivers were used instead of the compilation of crashes and races.
“Not on the team [per se], but personally, I think NASCAR, instead of just promoting the race with the same ad of crashes and races, pick a driver and their sponsor and give them ad space with commercials like the 2000s that are funny and directly tie into the sponsor, personality [of the driver]”
Hocevar posted on X.
Hocevar alluded to the days of his childhood when Michael Waltrip’s hilarious NAPA commercials or ESPN’s race announcement commercials gave fans some entertaining content. It is coming from a teenage driver who established himself as a prodigy within a handful of years and someone who has been a racing fan his whole life.

Carson Hocevar explains why his proposal can be game-changing
The part-time Legacy Motor Club driver explained why he thought his proposal might work. He said that the ad space would be a big incentive for sponsors as well as the title sponsors of the races. Hocevar admitted that though the financial side might not be feasible, it is still a good idea.
“Would also give more value to the company spending money on the track, that NASCAR gives them a kickback to help push/promote and all while promoting the driver and the race. Dollar and cents probably say that doesn’t make sense, but it’s [an] interesting concept I guess.”
Carson Hocevar has risen into one of the star drivers of the sport much faster than expected; he started the 2023 season as just another youngster who has a raw pace and is ready to wreck anyone for the win. But as the season progressed, he established himself as a fan-favorite prodigy, and his impressive stint with LMC played a major part in it.
