Carson Hocevar has locked his future by signing a multi-year contract with Spire Motorsports. The 20-year-old driver, currently completing his third full-time season for Niece Motorsports in the Craftsman Truck Series, is set to replace Ty Dillon as the full-time driver of the No. 77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports starting in 2024.
Hocevar marked his Cup Series debut at World Wide Technology Raceway this year, steering the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet. Despite a mechanical setback causing an early exit and a 36th-place finish, his showing underscored his potential. In subsequent races for Legacy Motor Club in the No. 42 car, Hocevar notched four top-20 finishes, notably securing 11th place at Bristol.
The announcement comes as Spire Motorsports expands its operations to three cars after acquiring a charter from Live Fast Motorsports. Teaming up with Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson expresses excitement about having Hocevar on board saying, “Carson Hocevar is a proven winner and excels with every opportunity,” Dickerson compared him to young NASCAR legends, citing Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski. He shared he is “thrilled to have him join the Spire Motorsports family and help us continue to raise our competitive bar.”
Hocevar dreams of being a Cup Series driver, excited to join Spire Motorsports. Envisions growing relationship with teammate Corey LaJoie through daily collaboration and teamwork. He confirmed his contract with a tweet, “I understand that, with my agreement, Spire Motorsports have put out a press release late this evening that I am driving for them next year. This is correct and I have signed a contract with Spire for 2024. I will be driving for Spire next year.”

Carson Hocevar imitates F1 driver Oscar Piastri with his tweet
This tweet adds a lighthearted touch to the announcement, drawing inspiration from McLaren F1 driver Oscar Piastri‘s infamous tweet saga from a year ago. Piastri had denied joining Alpine F1 in a tweet, creating a viral moment in the F1 community. His tweet read, “I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year.”
Oscar was a rising star in the open-wheeled racing and won all the championships in the junior categories. A legal dispute arose in August 2022 following his tweet with Alpine over Piastri’s contract for 2023, citing trust issues and professionalism concerns. The CRB ruling confirmed Piastri’s absence of an Alpine contract for 2023.
Hocevar, perhaps embracing the spirit of the sport, imitates Piastri’s tweet in a playful nod to the world of motorsports drama. As he gears up for a full-time Cup Series endeavor with Spire Motorsports, his journey takes on a distinctive flair. From quirky announcements to proven on-track prowess, Carson Hocevar emerges as a dynamic force, injecting humor and skill into the NASCAR landscape.
