The NASCAR street course race will debut in Chicago. It is scheduled to host both the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series. It will be held on the Fourth of July weekend and is a much-anticipated event. However, a certain incident has already caused turmoil ahead of the race. It has been reported that two cart vehicles were stolen from NASCAR’s Chicago worksite.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, a witness told the local police officers that an unknown individual broke into the premises in the 500 block of South Columbus and stole a pair of cart vehicles. Recently, the crew began their work on the grandstands for NASCAR’s inaugural street course race. The construction work is underway less than a month before the race.
Despite the additional surveillance at night, it is unknown how the two cart vehicles were stolen. However, as per the reports, Area Three detectives are investigating the crime. Fox 32 contacted NASCAR for more details regarding this incident, but the organization has yet to respond. Other media outlets also approached NASCAR hoping to receive a statement about the cart vehicles.
NASCAR will host its first-ever Chicago street race in July
There is no doubt that NASCAR fans will mark their calendar for the first weekend of July. After all, NASCAR will host its first street course race for the NASCAR Cup Series. The Cup race will be held on July 2nd, and the IMSA on July 1st. Though street courses are more popular in racing series like Formula 1, NASCAR will host the first of its kind in July.
The upcoming street race in Chicago is very much anticipated by the fans. They will see their favorite drivers speeding around the area and onto major roads like Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive. It is a 2.2-mile course, and the start and finish line, including the pit road, will be situated in front of Buckingham Fountain along South Columbus Drive.
Around 50,000 spectators are expected for the inaugural NASCAR street course race. Ben Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president, previously stated that, like the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, they seized an opportunity to add another element to their schedule by taking center stage in Chicago’s metropolitan market. NASCAR believes this would be the ideal setting for their first-ever Cup Series street race.
