Chase Briscoe might not survive the Round of 8 and secure a championship 4 spot. The Stewart Hass Racing driver crashed out at Homestead and was awarded a P36 finish. This put the No:14 driver in a must-win position going into the Martinsville race this weekend.

On lap 161 of the race, the SHR Mustang got loose and he hit the wall on turn two. Briscoe endured heavy damage to his car and was forced to pit under green to get it fixed.  Technical guidelines under the Damaged Vehicle Policy, restrained the team from fixing the control arms which resulted in a DNF.

The crash has resulted in his demotion to the bottom of the Round of 8 tables. He is 44 points off the cut line and should win the Martinsville cup race next weekend if he wants to secure a championship 4 spot and race for the championship in Phoenix.

Chase Briscoe said that the crash was caused by his mistake. He pointed out that he was loose on the lap, unlike the laps before it. He said, “The driver just made a mistake. I was really, really loose that run. We were really tight every other run. That green-flag run, we tried to get really free on the other side of it… I was hanging on with everything I had. It felt like I was on the ice,”.

Chase Briscoe pointed out that he wasn’t even running hard on the loose lap. He added that his car got freer and crashed sideways. Briscoe said, “Honestly, I wasn’t even running hard. I was trying to just get to the caution. We kept getting freer. I got sideways and had the wheel to the right and ended up head-on into the wall,”.

Briscoe is frustrated by his own mistake. He pointed out that he is better than crashing by himself. He said, “It is frustrating to have it be something of my own doing. I am better than…crashing by myself,”.

Chase Briscoe pointed out that his job at Martinsville is easier he just has to go there and win. He doesn’t have to worry about anything else. He said, “It is really unfortunate. It makes our job easier next week, I guess. We don’t have to worry about points. We (have) to go to Martinsville and win,”.
