Chase Elliott has been in NASCAR since 2011. In the last decade, Elliott has become the fan-favorite driver of the Cup Series. He has also been named as NASCAR’s most popular driver for the last five years. In a recent interview with The Athletic, Elliott revealed that his enthusiasm for meeting different personalities has decreased.

Elliott said that for a long time in his childhood, he would have loved to meet icons from various fields. He reminisced about meeting Travis Pastrana when he was a child. He said that he loved motorcycles as a kid and still has a signed hat from him. However, as he matured over the years, he claims that he finds it hard to be starstruck by anyone.

“Honestly, nobody. For a long time it would be a musician or even NASCAR drivers when I was a kid… But as you get older, I’m fortunate to be in a position now where you become part of the show, in a sense… everyone is just another guy or another girl — and there’s just really no reason to act that way or be starstruck by anyone,” Elliott told The Athletic.

Chase Elliott bemoans his crash in Las Vegas’ practice session

Elliott blamed the tire cut for his abrupt end to the race. He said it might have happened because he ran the tires too long. He noted it was just his bad luck that it happened and that it has been like this all year for him. Due to the incident, Elliott will start at the back of the grid with a backup car.

“Just cut a right-rear tire – I’m not sure why, I had run 15 or so laps, so maybe I ran too long, I’m not sure. It’s a bummer, though. I knew it was a tire, for sure, I just couldn’t get stopped enough to keep it out of the wall. Definitely a bummer, but it’s been like that all year,” said Elliott.
