For the yearly race, Go Bowling at The Glen, NASCAR Cup Series teams will travel to the 2.454-mile road track at the New York hamlet of Watkins Glen. Fans will be hoping to see fireworks at the circuit as it is one of the most intriguing Road Course races of the Cup season as the majority of drivers are just one victory away from the playoffs with two races remaining.
Chase Elliott, the current championship leader and probably the 2022 regular season champion, will be the primary driver to look forward to in Watkins Glen. The No:9 Hendrick Motorsport driver has seen a slight drop in his form after his victorious run in Pocono as he saw his finishes dropping to law top 20 after five consecutive top 2 finishes where three were wins.
The 2020 cup champion is on the right path to getting himself set for the playoffs as he made a comeback to the top 5 at Richmond last weekend, which he will be hoping to recreate this weekend at Glen. The active driver with most cup race wins on road courses has now come forth, expressing his thoughts on the track that gave him his first career win.

Chase Elliott acknowledged that Watkins Glen holds some great memories as the track gave him his first cup race win, which came in 2018. He added that the bNo:9 team had some success on the track and pointed out that they have come a long way in our road course program with the new car. He added that he hopes to regain momentum by putting in some good performance in the playoffs.
“Watkins Glen (International) was where I got my first win, so it’s, of course, a place that holds some great memories for me. We’ve had a good amount of success there as a team, and I feel like this year, we’ve come a long way in our road course program with the new car. This is a track that I feel like we can go and have a good run and get some momentum back heading into the playoffs,” Chase Elliott said.
Chase Elliott’s crew chief Alan Gustafson has come forth expressing his view that Watkins Glen has been a successful track for them over the last three years and points out that they have another opportunity to have an impressive run with the competitive car they have. He points out that the main objective for the No:9 team at the track will be to take home some playoff points that can give them a good start in the post season.
“Certainly, the last three years have been good for our team at Watkins Glen (International). We’ve been really competitive there, and we feel like this is another opportunity for us to go out there and have a good race. Our focus will be on winning and ultimately trying to get some more playoff points. That’s the key. This is a track we should be able to do that at. Hopefully, that will come to fruition and put us in a good position for the playoffs,” Alan Gustafson said.
