NASCAR cup drivers are in Darlington Raceway as they prepare themselves for the first round of the cup series playoff.  Out of the whole grid, 16 drivers will be going all out for the championship four-race entry, while the rest of the grid will have their eyes set on the win that can redeem the underwhelming season they had with their respective outfits.

Chase Elliott, without any doubt, has been among the top three if not the best driver this season so far as he won the regular season championship by securing P1 finishes for the No:9 Hendrick Motorsports team four times this season, where 3 of them came in the second half of the season. The HMS driver has been the most consistent driver of the season and neither his teammates nor his rival matches his pace this season.

This dominance has prompted the NASCAR community to claim that the 2020 cup champion is the favourite going into the first round of racing in Darlington. But now Chase Elliott has come forth expressing his thoughts on the opinion as he isn’t that font of fans proclaiming him as the favourite.

Talking about his preparation for the season, Chase Elliott acknowledged that the No:9 team is in a good position for the postseason rounds and has already earned some valuable experience for the race “I feel like we’re in a good place. I think we could be better, but I think we’re in a solid spot — and in a position where we’ve learned some good lessons, too, that we can apply going forward,”.

Chase Elliott went on to say that he doesn’t think there is a favorite for the championship if he is being honest as there are a lot of good drivers on the grid, saying, “I don’t think there is [a favorite]. For me, there’s never a good answer. But I try to just give you my honest take on it, and you can take that and do what you want, I guess. There have been too many people good at different times,”.

Chase Elliott went on to say that him being the driver with the most wins this season doesn’t mean he is the favorite as the rest of the grid is capable of such dominant runs. He added that one has to respect the whole field as the drivers and the teams are technically gifted and has a shot at the title.

Just because we have a win more than other people doesn’t mean other people aren’t capable of winning or having a really good day, too. You’ve got to respect the whole field, in my opinion. There’s a lot of really talented drivers and a lot of really smart people working at these teams,” Chase Elliott added.

Chase Elliott went on to add that the playoff is so unforgiving as two bad weeks can put the drivers in a place where they will have won the next race to move forward. he pointed out neither the front runner nor the back runner in safe from the above-mentioned fate.

“The rounds are so short. You can have two bad weeks back-to-back and you do nothing wrong, and the next thing you know, you’re in a position where you have to win the last one. And that could happen to the guy that’s first in points or the last guy. I don’t think anyone is safe from that,” Chase Elliott explained.
