William Byron produced one of the best wins ever in his career to continue his dominance in the Next-Gen era this Sunday at Martinsville. He won the race on overtime beating teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Eliott. It was his third win of the 2024 season and the 11th win since the introduction of 7th gen cars.

The day was really special for HMS as it marked the 40th anniversary of Geoff Bodine’s 1984 Martinsville win, the first ever Cup win of HMS and the race that saved the team from ceasing its operations. But one person was missing at the HMS garage who should have been leading all the celebration, Rick Hendrick. 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott admitted that he hates not seeing his boss there.

I’m happy for William, happy for everyone at Hendrick Motorsports. It’s really special to have a lot of our folks here, almost everyone, and their families and I hate Rick couldn’t be here today, Linda, but certainly proud and happy to be part of their organization today.
Chase Elliott said.

The No:9 Chevy driver pointed out that not having the bossman ad his wife there to celebrate the win with them, when around a group 1500 Hedrick Group employees and families is there to cheer for them is unfortunate. But he and his teammates can be happy about the fact that they produced an impressive race and made their Hall of Fame team owner proud.

Jeff Gordon highlights what makes William Byron dominant

Hendrick Motorsports’ Vice Chairman and former 4-times champion with the team, Jeff Gordon detailed the reason for the impressive performance of William Byron in the last three seasons. He pointed out that the driver’s hunger for the win, his talent alongside the strong No:24 team he has makes him a formidable force.

You just say to yourself, one, he’s super talented. He wants it really bad. He works really hard at it. He’s got a great team around him. As a driver, that’s what you hope for, right? You hope you get in that position to showcase what you’re capable of doing in the right equipment, the right team.
Jeff Gordon said.

Gordon and HMS would be more than happy how the race turned out for them, but at the same time, they have to now focus on their driver duo of Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman. Both them are winless since 2022, but considering the improvement they have shown recently they are close to one if HMS can cater their needs.
