Chris Buescher and RFK Racing have “got it all figured out,” to chase Cup Championship next season

Chris Buescher
The 2022 season was a new beginning for the RFK Racing garage, more so than any other team. They brought in veteran Brad Keselowski to their driver’s lineup, as well as the owner’s group. Their efforts to have a fresh and productive start to the season were halted by the harsh penalty that was imposed on Keselowski for unauthorized changes made to their car.
This had a domino effect on the team as they began producing some under-par performance I the start of the season. They were able to extract some performance out of the car in the latter part of the season. Keselowski’s failed to secure RFK the win they were desperate for. But his teammate Chris Buescher delivered for them, though a little late. He won the third playoff race of the year at Bristol, which was also his first win in 5 years.
Following the impressive 2022 season, Buescher believes that 2023 will be easier for the team as they have already figured out the car. He said, “I would like to say that we have a hold on this car and we got it all figured out and it’s gonna be much easier next year, but I’m not sure that would be truthful,”.
The team will learn from their best days on the track this season and apply the positives to next season’s challenger. He said, “We have ideas. We have baselines to start, but we are constantly learning. We’re constantly evolving even more. And I think that’s what we’re going to be looking at through the offseason, right, is how do we take our best days and figure out how to make that our every day,”.
Chris Buescher can be a championship contender next season

Chris Buescher is the future of RFK Racing. Veteran Brad Keselowski and his fellow team owners can produce a championship contender out of him if they can give him a competitive ride. RFK is the 3ed best Ford team on the grid behind Penske and SHR, so they need to get their priorities in order. Keselowski can still fight for wins and championships but in the long run, Buescher is the right investment.
Buescher has been inconsistent this season compared to 2021, but a majority of it can be attributed to the Next Gen car and struggles of getting the car set up right for every track. He was able to overcome these constraints and secure a win. He had ten top-10 finishes this season compared to 8 of last year showcasing an improvement but failed to produce consistent Top 20 runs in the rest of the races as he did in 2021.
He finished outside the Top 20 only 9 times last year compared to the 14 finishes this season. The majority of his such finishes were outside the top 30, which suggests that it wasn’t just because of his driving. The inconsistency in the RFK Mustang’s performance did cost him some good finishes. So, if he is delivered a good car for 2023, he can win the championship for the team.
