Athletes worldwide miss some valuable times and significant moments they could’ve spent with their families in pursuit of greatness.  It’s no different for NASCAR Cup drivers as they grid week in and week out for 38 races.  Recently, RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher found himself in a similar situation. He missed the birth of his son due to the Dayton Speedweeks schedule.

The delivery predicted by doctors was during the Las Vegas Cup race weekend, the third race of the season. But, unfortunately, or fortunately, Buescher’s wife was hospitalized for the delivery on Tuesday, while the No:17 Ford driver was racing in the Dules. Soon after the event ended, he flew back to be with his wife during the big moment.

But to his misfortune, he couldn’t make it on time as he arrived a bit late and his son had already delivered. The mother and newborn were healthy, and there was no health issue to worry about. Buescher missed the Friday practice but flew back to race in the event. He secured a P18 finish on Monday in the 500.

Certainly, wasn’t planning on Daytona 500 weekend. Was a tough one to miss honestly. Was hoping to come out of there with a win, and get to our scheduled due date, and be in a little better spot to miss a race. So, not all of that quite played out. But everyone’s healthy back home, so that’s great.
Buescher told Fox Sports.

If the same happened during Las Vegas race weekend, it would’ve been bad for Chris Buescher

The Ford driver pointed out that if the delivery came on a date around the Las Vegas race, things would’ve been worse for him as transpiration would have been a nightmare for him in such situations. He believes that it was almost a good experience for him.

The original due date was Vegas, which would’ve been a way worse situation. It’s almost as good as it could’ve gone. Even if there had been another weekend, a Thursday, we’re typically still home. But like I said, I’m a little bummed I wasn’t quite there, but I was there very shortly after.

Buescher now has the best reason to give absolutely everything to win the Cup series title in the 2024 season. He is already considered by many to be a championship contender or the dark horse of the season.
