RFK Racing driver Chris Buescher, one of the most impressive racers in the Cup series this season alongside Willaim Byron and Denny Hamlin, has claimed he is a solid contender for the last-four spot. He is one of the two Ford drivers in the final four, and though he had a slump in form in the R-12, he is a solid candidate to make it to the season finale.

Buescher’s impressive performance and consistency have been the key to his charge to the playoff final eight round. He has won two races this year and 15 overall top-10 finishes. Buescher has a solid R-16 that scored P2, P27, and P4 finishes. He struggled a bit in R-12, scoring P14, P19 and P7. With boss Brad Keselowski eliminated, the team fully focuses on the No:17 driver.

Talking to the media ahead of the practice in the R-12 opener at Las Vegas, Buescher claimed that he and his team can no longer be overlooked. He pointed out that the No:17 team has consistently outperformed some of the so-called favorites on their way to R-8, and they are here with the prime objective of securing that season finale spot.

I think we’re not at a point where we [can’t] be ignored anymore. We’ve made it a long way this season. We’ve outrun a lot of what were considered favorites from the get-go on the year, and we’ve outrun them very consistently through the second half of the season – even a little more so,” Chris Buescher as reported by NASCAR.com.

Chris Buescher says them making it to R-8 is no big surprise

The Ford Mustang driver’s journey to the penultimate playoff round has, without a doubt, been a big surprise to fans, but for him, it isn’t a surprise as it was their expectation from the start of the season. He also claimed that the Cup garage now understands that they are the team to be reckoned with in the playoffs.

To me, like I said, I don’t know what everyone else is feeling. But I would say you’re gonna have a hard time finding somebody that’s not aware that we’re in this round and that we have an opportunity to make it to the next one,” He said.

This is not coming as a surprise to us whatsoever. We’re thrilled to be here. And I’m happy to be halfway there on our goals for the season and our expectations. But we’ve got work to do yet. We’re not done,” Buescher added.

He has to prove himself in the coming three races hosted at Vegas this Sunday, then Homestead Miami and Martinsville. He has never won a race at these tracks and has scored just two top-10s there in the last seven years he raced in the NASCAR Cup series.
