The 23XI Racing and Toyota Garage had a solid dirt race weekend at Bristol. Bubba Wallace also produced a solid run.

Retired NASCAR driver and Fox sports commentator Clint Bowyer wasn’t pleased with 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace’s comments after the qualifying Heat race for the easter Sunday event. The No:23 Camry won the 4th Heat race holding off the likes of former dirt race winners Kyle Busch and Joey Logano. He also faced a strong challenge from dirt legend  Jonathan Davenport, who marked his Cup debut.

The starting lineup for the 15 laps showdown was selected in a random draw, which saw Wallace getting the pole. While the pole helped him to win the sprint event, it didn’t get him enough metric points to secure a top-10 spot for a start. Wallace was disappointed with the outcome as he wasn’t rewarded for leading the 15 laps and serving one restart while drivers such as Kyle Busch, who finished behind him, earned better pole positions.

Wallace told Fox Sports after the heat race win and final classification of qualifying results, “I just hate that we don’t get any like extra points. We should get points for leading laps, so if we want to keep doing this show, we need to incorporate where the leader has a better incentive. I’m starting 11th. Come on now,”.

While Wallace had a point about the lack of incentives, Bowyer didn’t think so and asked him to stop whining about it. He claimed it was just a bad draw. Bowyer said, “Austin Cindric. Look at him. That was a great job in his heat race. Again, Bubba Wallace, we talked about it. I know you’re whining a little bit about I didn’t lead any laps or anything else. That’s a bad draw,”

Bristol might have helped Bubba Wallace to regain some lost confidence

The one positive of the dirt race for Michael Jordan’s TRD team might be their returning confidence in Wallace. The sole African American driver on the grid, Wallace is one of the few drivers whose entire performance in a race might have more top with his confidence than the car’s pace. A confident Wallace will be solid, while a not-so-confident Wallace will probably be among the worst driver of the day.

The 29 years old, who had a solid start to the season, has been going through a tough set of finishes over the last four races. Things might have gotten tougher, considering the fact that his teammate Tyler Reddick thrived in these races and scored his first win at COTA. On that same day, a dejected Wallace commented that he needed to replace. While starting the race at P11 and finishing 12 may not seem like the best outcome, it’s the minimum result he could have hoped for.
