Cody Ware breaks silence on NASCAR reinstatement after prosecutors drop assault charges

NASCAR has reinstated Cody Ware after an indefinite suspension for assault. He was suspended by the premier stock car racing sanctioning body back in April for an incident involving his then-girlfriend. He missed all the NASCAR races he was supposed to start due to the suspension while Ryan Newman and other part-timers drove his car for RWR.

Ware, talking about his reinstatement, pointed out that he is glad all the controversies around the case have now come to an end and admitted that it’s been a difficult eight months for him. Cody Ware claimed that he has maintained his innocence from the start and is thankful he got his life back following the dismissal of the cases.

I’ve maintained my innocence from the very beginning, even as there was a rush to judgment by others. I’m glad this entire matter is behind me because it’s been an incredibly difficult eight months. With all of the allegations being dismissed, I’m thankful to have my life back.

While Ware can once again race in NASCAR, it is unclear whether he will race in 2024. RWR hasn’t announced their full plans for 2024 and it is expected that he will be making part-time appearances like in 2022 with the All-Star car of the team owned by his father, while Justin Haley will drive the RFK Racing-backed full-time ride for them.

Why was the assault case against Cody Ware dropped?

Technically the court didn’t dismiss the case because Cody Ware was found innocent in the case, instead, it was his current ex-girlfriend and Ware’s refusal to cooperate with the procession that led to the District Attorney’s office to drop the charges.

Ware was indefinitely suspended back on April 10 after he was arrested for assaulting his then-girlfriend. He was booked for assault by strangulation and assault causing serious injury. Amidst the legal proceedings, Ware’s girlfriend was also charged with simple assault in September.

Rock Ware Racing and Rick Ware along with his family had also filed a lawsuit against Cody Ware’s then-girlfriend alleging the case was fabricated. All these lawsuits will be dropped since the primary charges that started all the proceedings were dropped.
