The 2023 Cup Series finale at Phoenix will mark the final race of 2014 Cp Series champion Kevin Harvick’s NASCAR career. He announced at the start of the season that he would retire, and the finale would be his final race. Harvick will attend the race on Sunday, maybe with a slight hope of winning the event and retiring without a winless final season.
Regardless, Harvick will go down in history as one of the all-time greatest and among the most respected racers of all time. The 61 times Cup race winner will make the NASCAR Hall of Fame as a first-ballot entrant. He came into the sport as Dale Earnhardt’s replacement and is leaving the sport with a legacy that justifies his selection.
Recently, Dale Sr.’s son. Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was Harvick’s Cup rival for over one and a half decades, explained why the SHR driver is among the most respected in the garage. While doing so, he admitted that Harvick is someone who can give valuable insights into decision-making at the top of the sport due to his experience.
So, he’s sorta been able to see the sport from every perspective. So, I think when he’s sitting there in the room, and all the conversations are happening around the sport and which direction we should go. And what decisions should we make today? He’s a perfect person to have involved in that discussion.Dale Jr. said via a Tribute YouTube Video by SHR.
Denny Hamlin calls Kevin Harvick the most respected driver on the grid
While talking on the same SHR tribute video, Harvick’s long-time rival and Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin has highlighted the leadership qualities of the racer. He pointed out that the Ford driver was among the most respected individuals in the NASCAR garage.
Well, one thing is for sure whenever Kevin speaks up whether it be in the media or at the racetrack, off the racetrack people listen. I think Kevin is probably the most respected racecar driver that we have in our garage.
Once Harvick retires, Hamlin and Brad Keselowski are the two drivers in line to take up the veteran leadership role. Both have very different personalities from Harvick but share the outspoken nature of the ex-champion and are proven winners. It will be interesting to see who will take up that mantle.
