NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. has confirmed that Ty Dillon will team up with Daniel Hemric at Kaulig Racing in 2023. Dillon ended his current contract with Spire Motorsports to drive the No: 77 Chevy before the end of the season. He was replaced by Carson Hocevar, who will make his rookie debut next year.
Dillon is the grandson of RCR owner Richard Childress. His brother Austin Dillon, former Xfinity Series champion, drives RCR on the Cup series. But unlike Austin, Ty never had significant success in NASCAR. He is the biggest journeyman in the sport at the moment, and other than his racing skills, the financial backing he has is the reason why he still has a seat.
Dale Jr., while discussing the Cup driver lineup, pointed out that Kaulig Racing will have a new driver lineup next season. This means Justin Haley, who is set to join RFK Racing back RWR car, will be replaced by veteran Hemric, and AJ Allmendinger might get replaced by Dillon. AJ might return to the Xfinity series, which is disappointing, considering he scored their only Cup win of the year at ROVAL.
Daniel Hemric is coming back into the Cup Series with Kaulig. Ty Dillon’s going over there to run a second car, and so those cars struggled so badly at Phoenix. It was not good. I think this is going to be a very difficult year on the Cup side for Kaulig. I don’t know that that’s a big surprise to anybody.Earnhardt said via Dale Jr. Download.
AJ Allmendinger’s future is a big question mark going into 2024
Veteran AJ Allmendinger is unretired and once again got behind the wheels of Cup car full-time yet again this year with Kaulig after two impressive seasons with them in the Xfinity Series. He had a good season that saw him fighting for the last playoff spot till the end with Bubba Wallace.
He finally scored the Cup win he had been seeking for a long time during the ROVAL playoff race and yet again solidified his place in NASCAR as one of the best road course racers. But amidst all this, his future was in limbo as he couldn’t sign a Cup deal extension.
He was candid about it towards of the season about his deal, saying money is the reason why he hasn’t extended the contract. The team hasn’t scouted enough sponsors yet, and he might return to the Xfinity Series, where the team has a better Car and needs less funding.
