NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his sister Kelly Earnhardt have recently named three best finds of their father, Dale Earnhardt. Dale Sr., who died in 2001 in a tragic last-lap crash at the Daytona 500, is one of the greatest drivers of the sport’s history. He won seven Cup titles, dominating the sport for two decades, and carried NASCAR evolution into the premier event it is now.
His son, Dale Jr., has expanded the family legacy after the tragic demise. The JR Motorsports co-owner has also been using his podcast platform. Dirty Mo Media to further explore his father’s legacy with special segments. Now, in a recent episode of his podcast, where he responds to fan queries, he was asked who the closest pals of his father were.
He extended the question to co-host and sister Kelly, and the sibling duo had a long discussion about it. Kelly was quick to name Richard Childress, the RCR with whom Dale Sr. won his six titles. Dale Jr. was then named Tony Eury Sr., who was Earnhardt’s close friend growing up. They even married sisters. The Eury brothers had also played an important role in Juniors’ racing career.
“Dad and Tony Sr. rode around in their trucks being idiots back when they were 18-19-20-21 years old. At least, that was the story. They married sisters. They continued to hang and be pals all through the 90s as Dad was, you know, Tony Sr. became the crew chief for the Busch car that Dad was driving that eventually I would drive. I mean, they were tight.“

The third best friend of Dale Sr. that most people don’t know about
Kelly Earnhardt went on to point out that Dale Sr. did have a long list of friends he might not have known. She insisted that Childress was definitely on the list. The JRM co-owner said, “So, there’s a long list that are right there, right? You could really dad maybe disagree with this. He might say somebody else, but Richard (Childress) was on that list…”
The two-time Daytona 500 winner reminded his sister of Donny Reaves, another close friend of Dale Earnhardt, who is actually not as famous as the other two. To the fans who don’t know him, Kelly said that Reaves is a car dealer from the north of Salsbury.
“His friend Donny Reaves was in it…” Junior said. Kelly Earnhardt responded to this by saying, “Donny Reaves, a lot of people don’t know who Donny Reaves is…Very good friend of my dad’s… Car dealer up in the north of Salsbury…”
