The NASCAR Cup Series event in Atlanta last Sunday, Ambetter Health 400, was an epic race. It featured the third-closest finish ever in the sport’s history. A 0.007-second margin between winner Daniel Suarez and third-place Kyle Busch at the finish line made it the closest top-3 finish in the sport’s history.

This was also a race where Fox Sports, the official broadcaster for the first half of the season, didn’t face much backlash over their broadcast. But there was one major issue, according to NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr., that needed addressing. He pointed out that the Camera work from the Fox team was too tight.

The camera shots are too tight. Can’t see everything. There is a shit ton going on out there.

It’s an important criticism that Fox should take note of, as being a Broadcaster with NBC for over half a decade, he knows how to improve the TV experience for fans. It is also an established fact that NBC has been doing a better job at broadcasting races than Fox, so such mistakes need immediate remedy.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. praised Fox Sports new graphics

Junior balanced out his criticism with praise for the team’s innovative graphics that were used to show caution. He was impressed by Fox’s visual caution lop during the race and said the same in a post on X during the race broadcast.

I like this visual of the caution loop Fox is using.

The two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion is going into the 2024 season without a broadcasting role. His deal with NBC expired last year, and they are yet to secure a new one. Reports suggest that a move to Amazon’s NASCAR coverage team from 2025 is on the table for him.
