Defending champion Joey Logano slams NASCAR for ‘stupid and dumb’ towing operation

NASCAR Cup Series defending champion Joey Logano isn’t having a good day behind the wheel as he had in 2022 this season. He has secured his place in the playoffs and has been the best Ford on the grid, but he hasn’t had many consistent outings as he wants to. Bad luck also played a part in some unwanted results he has scored, and this Sunday at Pocono was one of those days.

Logano finished the race at P35 after leading 21 laps due to an early race incident. On lap 36 of the race, the No:22 Ford Mustang was tagged from behind. He spun and hit the outside wall. All four tires of the Next-Gen car got punctured, and after the marshals’ efforts to push him to the pit failed, the car was towed to the pit lane.

Logano was infuriated as, along with having a bumpy ride to the pits in the car, it also suffered significant damages on the way. The team got his car back running with a quick fix. He returned to the track multiple laps down but was soon forced to retire after failing to race with enough speed. The driver slammed NASCAR  and pointed out that the towing operation was stupid and dumb.

It just doesn’t make any sense. We’ve been fighting these cars for two years now with four flat tires when a car spins out, and you get this long, horrible ride back. It’s rough. Your head is bouncing around in there. It’s stupid. It’s just really dumb that we can’t just put four tires on a truck.

Joey Logano has an easy fix for the issue

The two times Cup champion has an easy fix to solve the situation. He wants the emergency response crew to have four tires onboard the truck, which they can use to change the punctured tires of the car they are attending.

If we can put four tires on one of (the tow trucks) with a jack and an impact that can just change the tires and let us come back, instead of dragging the car two miles around the racetrack… It’s just stupid.
Logano said.

Logano also claimed that his fix could end the discomfort the drivers and tow truck drivers faced while transporting the cars to the pit. He also pointed out that it would minimize underbody damage when the car is dragged to the pit.
