Denny Hamlin, who has been vocal about the lack of respect in the Cup garage, proved last weekend at Richmond Raceway Toyota Owners 400 that every driver in the grid is guilty of respect-related issues. JJ Yeley accused the 23XI Racing co-owner of deliberately spinning by him early in the race for caution. He pointed out that Hamlin should have known betters since he had been preaching about the lack of respect in the garage over social media.

Hamlin hinted in his post-race interview that he would discuss the spin in his Dirty Mo Media podcast, Actions Detrimental.  He explained the situation that led to the spin and pointed out he had misjudged a move to overtake JJ. Hamlin added that he wasn’t solely blamed for the incident as the No:15 RWR car barking early also played a part in it.

What I was trying to do was trying to get right behind him. And then go in the corner and show my left front and kinda get him wedged off of the bottom so I could just take the bottom on him because I couldn’t complete the pass on the outside,” Hamlin said.

But really, I went back — I couldn’t realize because it happened so quick — like, ‘What the f*** happened? How did I misjudge this that badly?’ I looked at the data, and I saw that JJ checked up about a hundred feet early and got on the brake quite a bit sooner,” the JGE veteran added.

It was the No:11 Toyota Camry driver that prompted the lack of respect discussion in NASCAR. It all started with him deliberately spinning Ross Chastain out of frustration. He said in his podcast that he made a move deliberately and was penalized by NASCAR. His former teammate, Kyle Busch, while discussing the saga, said that the young driver lacks respect.

The Cup garage stated weighing in on the issue since. Veterans such as Kevin Harvick blamed NASCAR’s lack of response and said that the young drivers are taught to race hard. Drivers such as Bubba Wallace and Tod Gilliland pointed out that the veteran also has a share in the hyper-aggressive driving in NASCAR.
