Joe Gibbs Racing has signed a multi-year contract extension with their veteran driver, Denny Hamlin. The three-time Daytona 500 winner will stay on the team beyond 2024 and will continue his pursuit of a maiden Cup title to add to his already Hall of Fame-worthy career with 50 wins in the No:11 car from over 600 starts.
One of the major factors that kept the rational contract extension uncertain was the association with JGR and 23XI Racing, a team owned by Hamlin and NBA legend Michael Jordan. Since JGR is the prominent TRD team on the grid, 23XI has a strategic partnership with the team that includes sharing resources and personality. Since Hamlin co-owns the team, the deal also had to reflect this relationship.
Hamlin, while talking about the new deal, pointed out that 23XI will continue to work with Toyota with no real changes. He said that the team was built with the dream of becoming a championship team by 2026, and the team remains on the same trajectory. The No:11 driver added that his extension solidifies their relationship.
“23XI will continue its relationship with Toyota into the future. Nothing really changes. We’re going to continue on the path that we’ve been on. It was my goal to make that a championship organization within five years. We’re gonna continue on that trajectory. I think that we’re in a good spot. Our relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing is in a good spot. This kind of solidifies all those deals as done,” Hamlin said, as reported by RACER.

Denny Hamlin is now ready to shift the focus to winning the title after a contract extension
Hamlin has now shifted his focus entirely to winning his first Cup title after signing the extension. He is in impressive form this season with two wins and a remarkable steak of top-10 finishes towards the end of the regular season. Hamin will be hoping to end his unwanted moniker of the winningest driver with zero championships.
“Joe Gibbs Racing has been my home for almost 20 years now. My relationship with Joe [Gibbs], my team, and everyone at JGR means a lot to me. We have accomplished so much together over the years. I’m excited to finally announce this so we can put all our focus on chasing the championship,” Hamlin said.
