The second race of the Playoffs at Kansas turned out to be one of the most nail-biting events of the season. As 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick overcame all odds to emerge victorious over his team’s co-owner Denny Hamlin, RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski, and Chris Buescher were the standouts of the race despite a P9 and P27 finish.

The key factor in RFK Racing’s success so far has been the impeccable execution of their pitstops, with their average time in 2023 being 10.504 seconds. JGR’s Denny Hamlin was full of admiration for the team after the race as he said that RFK did not get the finish they thought they deserved. He claimed that Keselowski’s crew played a major role in helping him gain spots in the race. Keselowski had started the race from P12 and finished P9.

“Brad’s pit crew holy moly, they gained him so many spots throughout the day probably got to the front. I couldn’t believe it… They put themselves in contention and didn’t quite get the finish that they thought they probably deserved,” Hamlin said on his Actions Detrimental podcast.

Keselowski currently stands in fifth position in the standings. Although he still has no victory this season, he looks like a solid contender for the championship. Meanwhile, his teammate Chris Buescher is in ninth place with three wins and seven top-five finishes.

Denny Hamlin must have mixed feelings about the final result at Kansas. While on the one hand, he should be happy that his team’s driver, Tyler Reddick, bagged the first place, he must also be distraught since he himself lost out the first place to him. After the race, Hamlin did not try to hide his emotions as he said he was ‘a driver first’.

Hamlin was very blunt in his comments as he said that he was not at all happy with Reddick’s win. He said this loss hurt him more since he had the more dominant car. While Hamlin was in a strong place for the better part of the race, he fumbled the ball in the last restart, where Reddick capitalized the situation and took the win for himself.

“I am not enjoying the #45 winning right in this second, for sure. I mean, on Sundays, certainly, I’m a driver first. This one just stings a little bit more for me personally, just having a car dominant at the end and not winning,” said Hamlin.
