‘Every week it’s something, almost seems intentional at this point,’ NASCAR Twitter reacts to Bubba Wallace finishing dead last in Sonoma
Bubba Wallace
The Next-Gen car’s debut run at the Sonoma Raceway 1.99 miles road course; the Toyota/ Save Mart 350 was quiet affairs compared to the last few rounds of cup racing this season. The race saw the No:99 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver for Trackhouse Racing, Daniel Suarez making history as the former Drive for Diversity graduate secured his first career cup win holding back RFK racing star Chris Buescher to become the first Mexican-born cup race winner.
But Bubba Wallace, Suarez’s fellow Diversity initiative graduate, on the other hand, had a terrible day behind the wheels of his No:23 Toyota Camry as he marked a P36 finish. The 23X1 racer who started the race at p27 found himself finishing dead last after he was forced to retire 10 laps into the race as his engine failed him, which also brought out the first caution of the race.
The recent disappointments add to the list of a bad patch of runs Bubba Wallace has been having in his Camry which is comparatively faster and better than the early season one in which he was better. Bubba Wallace is yet to make his way back to the top 10 after he missed out on a podium finish in Kansas after some pitstop struggle and he or his No:23 team underperforming at the important moments also hasn’t helped him this season.
How NASCAR Twitter reacted to Bubba Wallace’s P36 finish
Bubba Wallace, being the sole full-time Black ethnic cup racer in the grid has been at the receiving end of criticism through putting his career both online and offline. Though sometimes the criticism that comes his way is fare alluding to him underperforming with the superior car he has at 23X1, there is often unfair and ill-timed criticism coming his way for many reasons.
The NASCAR twitter’s reactions to the 2021 Talladega Race winners’ poor finish were mixed as some fans were sympathetic and fair-minded in their reaction alluding to his bad luck there were also comments that were outrageous and ill-intoned. The fans were also unimpressed by the fact of how many times the No:23 team has failed to give Wallace a better running car.
