“Everybody is super pumped,” Cole Custer is anticipating to put on a good show in the Enjoy Illinois 300

Cole Custer

Cole Custer who sports the No.41 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing as a full-time Cup Series contender and a part-time competitor in the Xfinity Series driving the No.07 Ford Mustang for SS Green Light Racing is very keen on returning to race on the World Wide Technology Raceway which will be hosting the NASCAR Cup Series for the first time.

He has had a pretty decent history with this particular track as he took part in the Camping World Truck Series races from 2014 to 2016 appearing thrice and winning the 2015 race, earned a 6th place finish in 2014 after acquiring a pole that day, and in his last and most recent outing at the track, he finished 15th at the World Wide Technology Raceway which is also known as Gateway International Speedway.

Cole Custer has had a pretty disappointing Cup Series season so far standing 27th in the points table and with just three top 15s and a P21 finish in the previous Cup Series outing, the iconic Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, he had the potential of earning his first top 5 finish of the season, but it all went in vain when he got caught in one of the big-ones towards the end of the race which forced on OT.

“I haven’t run there since they repaved it. The last time I ran there was in 2016,” says Cole Custer looking forward to racing at WWTR

Cole Custer appears to be excited ahead of his and his fellow racer’s first Cup Series race at the World Wide Technology Raceway and says that they will have to shift gears a lot given the track conditions he also added that he hasn’t been to this track since 2016 so he expects it to be a lot different than before.

“A lot of shifting. With the two different ends, you’re probably going to be shifting twice, I would think, especially in (turns) one and two with how much slower it is. I haven’t run there since they repaved it. The last time I ran there was in 2016 with the Truck Series, so it’s going to be a lot different than when I was last there,” said Cole Custer.

He further added by saying that he is waiting to see how others would perform at this track and given the significance of balance for the Next-Gen car, it would be interesting to see how it turns out. He further added by saying that taking the Cup Series event to new tracks where it has never been is really exciting for all the teams and racers.

“It’s going to be interesting just seeing how everybody can work the two different ends. It’s always a balance with these cars because they’re so on edge, I think it’ll be a good race. I think it’s really cool. The Cup Series has never been to St. Louis. I think everybody is super pumped and I think, a track like Gateway, it’s a racey place,” added Cole Custer.

He concluded by saying that with everyone entering a new track, it’d be fun to race and that it will also be intense given the variation of the track while hoping to see the stands packed with fans and he also said that it would be really exciting to see NASCAR include other tracks where they haven’t raced and it would also be better for the racers as it aids in improving their skills.

“So, we’ll probably be able to beat and bang a little bit. I think it’ll put on a good race and hopefully there will be a packed crowd there. It’d be really cool, being able to go to the Pacific Northwest and places like that, just being able to mix the schedule up. I think we go to some good tracks, but it’d be nice to put some variety in there,” concluded Cole Custer.

With Cole Custer currently standing 27th in the points, he should work a lot to get into this season’s playoffs.
