The NASCAR Cup race at Michigan did not go well for Hendrick Motorsports (HMS), as three of their four drivers were out. Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Alex Bowman were out of the race as they sustained damage. It was a day to forget for the organization and owner, Rick Hendrick. During the final stage of the FireKeepers Casino 400, the cars aimed for positions and tried to move up the field.

However, after the restart, there was a chain reaction involving Austin Cindric, Michael McDowell, and Todd Gilliland. As a result of which, Gilliland was running behind. Alex Bowman’s No.48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 spun and collided with his damaged car. The 30-year-old HMS driver had worked hard to get into playoff contention with his recent driving, especially on Sunday and Monday. But after this wreck, he is behind in points for the playoff.

Alex Bowman finished 33rd after the incident. With only three races remaining, this wreck was a huge blow to the Arizona native. His playoff ambition took a hit. Hendrick Motorsports relies on their two drivers to win in the final three races of the regular Cup season to make it into the 16-driver playoff field. It is not impossible though it looks difficult right now. However, the clock is ticking.

NASCAR fans had a mixed reaction to the No.48 Chevy of Alex Bowman slamming into the wall at Michigan International Speedway. One user said, “Ugh, another case of a bottom-tier driver making a dumb mistake.” Other fans sympathized with Bowman and said, “I feel terrible for Bowman atp. Bro has not been having a good season at all.” Some confessed they feel horrible that Bowman went from leading the points early in the season to the risk of missing the playoffs now.

“Bowman’s playoff hopes are gone,” “I’m in tears,” and “ So the 48 seems to be in a must-win situation now” were three of the comments. All hope is not lost, as three races are remaining for Bowman to enter the playoff. Some NASCAR fans find it difficult to believe there could be a playoff with two Hendrick cars missing from the scene. Take a look at other reactions below.

After the race, Alex Bowman told Frontstretch, “2023 has really sucked, but we got a couple of weeks to try to make it happen in the playoffs. At least we are running how we should. It’s a bummer to end days like this, but at least we were fast.” Hendrick Motorsports and Alex Bowman’s fans would have to keep their fingers crossed for him to make it into the playoffs this season. There is no doubt he would give his all in the remaining races.
