Aric Almirola's No:10 Ford Mustang for Darlington
Aric Almirola has revealed that his No:10 Ford Mustang will use Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 2001 Pepsi 400 baseball-theme-inspired paint scheme in the upcoming Darlington throwback weekend. The Daytona International Speedway race win was Dale Jr.’s one of the iconic, if not the most iconic, race wins of his career. It came the same year after the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt.
The SHR veteran, on his Twitter, wrote that when his team asked him to pick his favorite scheme, he chose the No:8 Chevy’s historic win. He wrote, “The team asked me to pick my favorite paint scheme for this year’s ‘Too Tough To Tame’ throwback race. Dale Jr’s 2001 Daytona win in the iconic Baseball scheme was the first that came to mind. An iconic and healing moment in our sport’s history. Honored to run it next weekend!”.
The 2023 season hasn’t been kind to the Ford drivers. He is the third worst-positioned driver in the Stewart Haas Racing garage. Only Ryan Preece, who returned to the series in 2023, replacing Cole Custer, is behind him in the ranking. The veteran driver has been winless since the 2021 July Cup race in New Hampshire. Disappointingly he has finished inside the top 5 just twice since that win, and none of them were a podium finish.
All four Stewart Haas Racing drivers are winless this season. Kevin Harvick, the last Cup champion of the team, has been the garage leader as he has always been once he joined them in 2014. Youngster Chase Briscoe is also producing some solid runs and has been consistent since a troubled start. Aric Almirola has scored just one Top 10 finish so far, and his other best runs are two Top 20s. Going into the Kansas Cup race this Sunday, he will hope to score at least a Top 10 before Darlington weekend.

Fans were impressed by the veteran’s decision to honor the most famous driver in the cup garage. The theme can also be used to appreciate NASCAR for naming Dale Jr. to the list of 75 greatest drivers of all time. At the same time, some fans use the opportunity to troll the driver as well.
