Bubba Wallace had an impressive start to his 2023 campaign at LA Clash and would have scored a podium finish if not for Austin Dillon. The No:3 Richard Childress Racing drivers ended the No:3 Camry to the wall with just 10 laps left in the race and went on to score a P2 finish behind winner Martin Truex Jr. and ahead of teammate Kyle Busch.

Wallace led the second most number of laps on the day with 30 behind Ryan Preece of SHR, who led 41 laps. He was fast like most of the Camry’s on the day and has shown that he still carries the positive momentum the No:23 had for the last half of 2022. Though Dillon deliberately sends Wallace to the wall, he doesn’t deliver the complete blame as both were racing hard against each other during the prior laps.

Wallace is disappointed with the result as he finished P22 in the 27-car field after the incident. He later digs at Dillon and shares his optimism about the year via a Tweet. He wrote, “W3ll that was fun, till it wasn’t. Hell of an effort.  Gonna be a great year!!!”. He replaced the letter ‘e’ on the word ‘well’ with the number ‘3’, which is Dillon’s car number.

Austin Dillon addressed the incident in his post-race interview and pointed out that what he did was a bit too much. He added that he hated it, Bubba, as he had to ruin the 23XI racers, who had a fast car, to secure the podium. Dillon also defended his actions by pointing out that they were hard racing before the incident.

I hate it for Bubba. He had a good car and a good run. But you can’t tell who’s either pushing him or getting pushed. I just know he sent me through the corner and | saved it three times through there, released the brake, and all kinds of stuff. And then when I got down, | was going to give the same. Probably was a little too hard,” Austin Dillon said.
