23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace had another terrible day at the office in the Cup series. The twice-cup race winner was so close to a third win only to see him spun by his close friend on the grid. Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch, who was on P3 before the eventual spin, went on to secure the win as he was the race leader when the caution was called.
Wallace was spun by the No:12 Team Penske Racing Ford Mustang driver Ryan Blaney. Blaney ran P2 behind Michael Jordan’s driver with more momentum and pace. When Wallace went for an untimed and miscalculated block, he had no option but to bump him, eventually leading to the spin. He went on to collect multiple cars, causing a multi-car wreck and caution. Wallace was frustrated after the race and didn’t hesitate to show his anger in front of booing fans, by throwing gadgets to the ground.
The 2023 season, so fans haven’t been kind to Wallace. He has undoubtedly the best and fastest car he ever drove in the Cup series but, unfortunately, fails to extract the best results from races. He hoped to get back to the top with a win at Talladega, where he scored his maiden cup victory after the poor streak-breaking top 10 from Richmond last weekend.
His struggles are highlighted more as his new teammate Tyler Reddick has already secured the playoff entry and has established himself as the best Toyota driver of 2023 alongside Christopher Bell of Joe Gibbs Racing. Reddick has been outplaying his teammate often and producing consistent finishes while Wallace’s season is on a roller coaster ride. He has to win a regular season race to silence his haters and secure the first playoff. The No:23 has to produce his best with the car he has.
