Hendrick Motorsports is the most decorated team in the history of NASCAR. They have, over the years, fielded championship-winning cars to legends of the sports like Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon to modern-day trailblazers like Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott. HMS’ young sensation Willaim Byron is a driver who has the potential to one day seal a spot alongside these greats.

Byron is having the best time of his career since the start of the 2023 season. He finished P3 in the championship last year, with the most wins of any (6) in the season, and started the 2024 season on the same high note. The No:24 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver won the Daytona 500, surviving multiple wrecks, and has sealed his post for the playoffs.

Team legend Jimmie Johnson recently recalled Byron’s childhood as a kid in Charlotte, where the seven-time champion was also residing. Johnson revealed that Byron had come to his house during Halloween and recalled him saying they would be teammates one day. Byron was lucky enough to live the dream as he raced alongside Johnson at HMS from 2018 to 2020.

I literally filled his trick-or-treating bag on Halloween when he was a kid at my house and he told me that someday he was going to be my teammate.

At the same time, some fans responded positively acknowledging the determination of confidence of Byron. The youngster who always has been the other guy at HMS has now established himself as the guy to beat in the Next-Gen era.
