Fox sitcom Malcolm in the Middle fame, Frankie Muniz, is set to drive full-time in the 2023 ARCA Mendes Series for Rette Jones Racing. He will drive the No: 30 Ford Mustang for his NASCAR debut, marking his maiden full-time stock car racing schedule.

Though Muniz has limited stock car experience, as he only made his debut in an SRL Pro Late Model series, but has a strong racing background he gained during his Atlantic Championship in 2008. He was also part of test runs during the 2021 ARCA series pre-season tests.

In a recent interview with CNBC, Frankie Muniz revealed that his desire to explore new things before the time ran out influenced his choice. He said, “I’ve always felt like I was running out of time. Even when I was a kid, I just felt like I needed to take advantage of having the opportunity to do things”.

He just doesn’t want to race. He wants to make it at the top. Muniz said, “I’m not doing this as a hobby. If I wanted to race cars, I could do it at a much lower level and have the same enjoyment. I want to make it to the top, and I’m going for that,”.

Muniz is training double time as he understands he will race drivers who invest their whole life to it. He said, “I’m training as much as I can. My other competitors, it’s their lives. It’s what they do for a living to put food on the table. When you’re competing against people that are dedicating their lives to it, you’ve got to do the same to compete,”.

Muenz is uncertain whether his acting career would have taken off if he didn’t choose racing. He said, “Maybe it would have been insane and gone to crazy levels, or maybe not. It’s hard to know when you think that way. Me, I’ve always felt like I was running out of time. Even when I was a kid, I just felt like I needed to take advantage of having the opportunity to do things,”.

Frankie Muniz understands that he got the opportunity to explore things most could because of his successful career as a child actor. He said, “There are a lot of things in my life I’ve wanted to try. And I’ve wanted to see if I could find success in these businesses. And fortunately, because of what I got as a child actor, gave me the opportunity to step back and try those other things. It gave me the freedom to do that. And I’m forever grateful for that,”.

His love for challenges and going out of his comfort zone inspired him to chase more than just acting in life. Muenz said, “But I think it’s more the fact that I love the challenge. I love the challenge of going outside of my comfort zone and finding success — or not. There’s been a lot of things that no one’s ever reported that I’ve done that were failures. But that excites me, diving into something that you don’t know very well and learning all about it. I want to do as much of that as possible,”.
