William Byron has had a topsy-turvy season. He managed to secure four wins in July, but his form fell steadily after that, as he did not get a top-ten finish in the five following races. However, he dominated Watkins Glen this Sunday as he secured his fifth victory. Team chief Rudy Fugle recently talked about their season and how they feel going into the playoffs.
Fugle said that the team has experimented a lot this season and was not afraid to try out different strategies. He said that the team is very confident going into the final regular season race at Daytona and has very good momentum for the playoffs as well.
“…But it is really good to get the momentum going for the playoffs, and we’re super confident going into not only Daytona but going into Darlington. We’re working super-hard on that first round and hoping to move forward with that as soon as we can,” Fugle is quoted by RACER.

William Byron does not feel very confident ahead of the NASCAR playoffs
William Byron will be heading into the playoffs with five wins and nine top-five finishes in the regular season, with his latest win coming at Watkins Glen. While Byron has shown good form this season, he has revealed that he is still not very confident going into the playoffs.
Byron talked about the unpredictability of the sport as he said that while they are in good form, things can go downhill very rapidly. He mentioned that his rivals will only get faster from now on, but he is still ready for the competition.
“I think we’re certainly in good form. I think we’re close. But it’s kind of, it’s kinda like football. We’ve made that analogy a lot this week. It just, it’s gonna continue to get harder and guys are going to continue to get faster. So, I think at this point, if the championship was next week, we’d say, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’,” said Byron.
“Hopefully, we feel the same way, you know, after Martinsville and go into Phoenix well prepared. So I think we’re in good form right now, but a lot can change,” he added.
