The Gateway hosted its inaugural cup race last weekend and it was one of the most entertaining outings NASCAR had in some time as the intense battle among the drivers did not disappoint the new market. Though it was an incredible dual among Team Penske Racing veteran Joey Logano and his former teammate and Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch that ended the race where the former came out on top, it wasn’t the story that headlined NASCAR news next day.

The aggressive run from No:1 Trackhouse Racing Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver Ross Chastain gained the attention for all the good and bad reasons from the NASCAR community as well as fellow drivers. The two times race winner this season Chastain who is known for his aggressive driving, which is now less prevalent in the Cup Races, had some noteworthy duels, especially with veteran Denny Hamlin and 2020 Cup Champion Chase Elliott.

The Hamlin-Chastain feud in the first half of the race was so intense as it showed signs of things going out of hand. Following the race, Denny Hamlin reacted to Chastain acknowledging that there will be payback coming his way for the cations and it will hit at the right time at the costliest place. With lots of criticism coming his way Chastain offered his apology to fellow drivers.

“It’s quite interesting. As much as I love Truex, he will always be one of my best friends, and I think that he is a cool cat because he’s that blue-collar, hunting and fishing outdoorsman kind of guy that we need in the sport. Ross is a guy that’s come in and he’s out there racing like he’s not getting a check. Every spot he’s racing for is worth food on the table. Bit of a throwback in the way drives, in my opinion. He doesn’t give an inch and we need a lot of guys out there like that. The more the better.” Added Dale Earnhardt Jr.
