Ross Chastain celebrates his victory at Talladega

Ross Chastain who drives the No.1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Trackhouse Racing competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series pulls off a quick move to acquire the lead in the last lap which made him the victor of the Geico 500 at Talladega.

Ross Chastain has had a pretty amazing outing so far this season despite starting off with a DNF at Daytona followed by a P29 at Auto Club Speedway, he managed to acquire four top 5’s and a victory at the Circuit of the Americas with the Talladega win being his second one for this season and his career.

Ross Chastain managed to take the lead in the last lap crossing Erik Jones and Kyle Larson when they both went wideout and lost momentum leaving space for Chastain to capitalize on the inside and go into the victory lane. Chastain stands 9th with 292 points in the standings.

“We just stayed down there,” says Ross Chastain as he wins the Geico 500

Ross Chastain stunned everyone out there with a last-lap overtake to eventually gain the lead and push through to announce his second Cup Series victory. When he was asked how it felt, he answered saying that he didn’t have to do anything and that he realized that he shouldn’t go out top too early.

“Holy cow, we didn’t do anything, we just stayed down there, I’m always the one going to the top too early and making the mistake,” said Ross Chastain.

He went on to say that with just 8 laps to go he wanted to stay low and not go up there and decided to drive at the bottom and on the inside and he concluded by saying that he didn’t want to go up and lose his chance at winning it and it worked wonders for the team.

“With like eight (laps) to go I was like ‘I’m not going up there again, I did that a couple of times today, I was like, I’ll just drive the bottom, I’m not going to lose the race for us,” concluded Ross Chastain.

With the 2022 season being a banger for Ross Chastain is he going to take this as a sign to push forward and win more races?
