‘I can’t get into it ,’ a hesitant Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the Inaugural F1 Miami GP which coincided with the Darlington throwback weekend

NASCAR hit the Darlington Raceway, a track notorious for chaos, last Sunday for the Goodyear 400 at the same time Miami hosted the second Formula 1 Grand Prix in the US, the Inaugural Miami GP. Veteran Joey Logano came out victorious after he took out William Byron in final lap of the race from the rear staying true to the 2017 champions’ and the track’s nature.
But the Formula 1 extravaganza in Florida definitely stole the headline in states as it attracted large number of celebrities including NASCAR personalities such as Kevin Harvick to the event. The main battle NASCAR is fighting right now is its decrease in number of viewers in the age group of 18-24, the young generation of the states.
Though the formula 1 event came up short in terms of total viewership as NASCAR topped with 2.614 million viewers in US compared to the 2.066 million F1 got the young generation preferred Miami GP as NASCAR was only able to secure 517,000 in the age group compared to the 735,000 of F1.
Now Dale Earnhardt Jr. one of the fan favourite retired NASCAR drivers who now works as a Race analyst for NBC alongside his personal podcast Dale Jr. Download podcast in a recent episode of ‘Ask Jr’ has come forth expressing his opinion on the Miami GP and his relation with Formula 1.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. acknowledged with hesitation that he is not a person who enjoys Formula 1 nowadays as he doesn’t see enough action in F1 from drivers compared to the past when he was watching as a fanboy of Mika Hakkinen, and Michael Schumacher. He admitted that for some reason he is now finding it hard to get interested or connect to F1 nowadays.
“I hesitate to say this, but I can’t get into it. I’m not incapable of enjoying F1 because I used to watch it with Mika Hakkinen, and Michael Schumacher and those guys were going at it. It was pretty awesome back then, but for some reason, I have had a hard time finding my interest or my connection to F1,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. went on to say he didn’t pay much attention to the Miami GP other than some social media stuffs he watched from the media persons he follows on the social media platforms. He went on admit that he is clueless about the track experience at Miami and what it means going forward.
“So, I really didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to it. The only thing that I was really watching was some social media stuff. Jeff Gluck was there and several other guys and girls that I follow on social media so I was seeing some of their experiences and so forth. But I have no idea how the race went or what people thought of the track or the experience and what it means for F1 or the Miami Grand Prix going forward,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.
