“Don’t cheer for villains,” NASCAR Twitter reacts to Erik Jones ‘Darlington race feels like a dream admission’

Erik Jones

Erik Jones made headlines this weekend at Darlington Raceway as he produced one of the upsets of the season by winning the first playoff race of the 2022 season. This was the second career win and second Cook Out Southern 500 win of the Petty GMS driver, as his first win came back in his Joe Gibbs Racing stint.

The win is also momentous considering the fact that it’s the first win for the Richard Petty-owned team in six years, and the race also ended a 55-year-long wait for the legendary No:43 car to get back to the victory lane at Darlington. Erik Jones’s win had more than just one consequence as the chaotic race restructured the entire playoff field in terms of points secured.

On Sunday, the Joe Gibbs Racing Totora Camrys’ dependability was called into doubt as Erick Jones was able to capitalize and overtake JGR veterans Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch, who both lost the lead due to mechanical failure. Erik Jones was able to outrun Denny Hamlin, another JGR driver, in the closing laps thanks to his ability to produce pace.

NASCAR twitter had a wildly positive reaction to the veteran’s victory as they once again shared their happiness for the Petty GMS driver’s win tough their comments. There were also some comments suggesting that Denny Hamlin went easy on him in the last alps, and salon fans were demanding the driver remain the humble person he is.
