Austin Cindric, the No:2 Ford Mustang driver for Team Penske Racing, started his rookie season with a bang winning the season opener in Daytona. Since then, the youngster has had some impressive outings and some close calls in his cup series outing but lacked the final race product as he failed to secure another win in the 19 races that followed which now has put his playoff chances in limbo as if there is going to be more than 16 winners this season, the less point he secured put him in the danger zone.

Going into the final six races of the season the Penske man had another challenge constraining his progress as his crew chief Jeremy Bullins was suspended for those four races which include this Sunday’s race at the Pocono Raceway, following his tire getting loose last week’s cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Now Austin Cindric has come to express his thoughts on how the suspension will affect his team.

Austin Cindric revealed why the team didn’t go on to appeal the penalty imposed on them as with the playoffs coming so close, they don’t expect NASCAR to back down from such vital times. He added the data they had from the race and the call NASCAR made, he acknowledged that he didn’t find any reason to file an appeal. He added that he expects to have some good weeks ahead of the playoffs.

Obviously, in four weeks we are pretty close to the start of the playoffs. I don’t think you are going to ask NASCAR to rethink what they thought. I don’t think with the data that we have and the call that NASCAR made, I don’t think there is any reason to appeal it. We just move forward and adjust accordingly, try to have some good weeks here, and get ready for the playoffs,” Austin Cindric said.

Austin Cindric went on to say that his team has a lot of depts, that have been added to them in the last coup[le of years, to back into during this time and the fact that his team has experience working remotely with efficiency is good for them. He pointed out that the coming race at Pocono will be a softer race to start and having the previous experience in the track and the fact that Bullins will be back before the playoff starts is a good thing for them.

“Obviously, the strength of our team is having good people and we have a lot of depth in the team. In the last couple of years, I think race teams have gotten a lot of experience working remotely, so, from that standpoint, a lot of the guys on this team have worked together a long time,” says Austin Cindric.

I think Pocono is probably a softer race to start that with. At Charlotte, we had to have Grant as the guy on the box, so I had some experience from the 600. I don’t think it should really affect us a whole lot, but it is good to get out of the way before the playoffs,” added Austin Cindric.

Austin Cindric went on to add that the fact that 14 different drivers have won the race this season and his playoff spot being in danger have had a domino effect on him as he is now more concentrated on the race points scored. He added that he has been having some good outings in the last few weeks and though his potion is a talking point he will be trying to keep him in the top 16 before the playoffs.

There is certainly a domino effect. I think you have to be cognizant of it. At the same time, I looked at Atlanta as a wild card race, and then after Atlanta, you start looking at points. We have been able to have some pretty good weeks here and get ourselves up in a reasonable position. That points picture is incredibly tight so it certainly could be a talking point. From my standpoint, I just do my job and try to stay above that top-16 and the rest will work itself out,” Austin Cindric explained.
