Ross Chastain secured a spot in the Championship 4 race at Phoenix with a crazy move at Martinsville. The Trackhouse racing piolet drove the car along the wall in the final lap to outrace Denny Hamlin who was ahead of him by more than two seconds. The crazy move earned him his maiden cup championship chase opportunity.
Ross Chastain leaped from p10 to p4 in the final two corners. He kept his foot on the gas the whole two corners and drove along the wall at highspeed. Even the No:1 Trackhouse crew was in disbelief, as none expected their driver to pull off such a crazy move to secure their progression.
The whole NASCAR grid was in disbelief about the crazy move by Chastain. Reigning cup champion Kyle Larson, who tried a similar move in Southern 500 on Hamlin, doesn’t think the move from Chastain was as cool as some thinks. He called it an embarrassment to the whole sport.
“Yeah, and I’m a bit embarrassed that I did, but that was pretty embarrassing, honestly. That’s not a good look for our sport. At all. I don’t know what you guys think; you probably think it’s cool, but I think it’s pretty embarrassing,” Kyle Larson said.
How rest of the NASCAR Cup drivers reacts to Ross Chastain’s video Game inspired move

Denny Hamlin doesn’t think the move was as embarrassing as Kyle Larson said. He said, “It was well executed. I didn’t think of it (as embarrassing like Kyle Larson said). These are the rules we play. You got to race inside these walls, and he found a way to do it better than us on the last lap,”.
Joey Logano believes the move was cool and awesome. But he demanded NASCAR to make laws against it. He said, “It was awesome; it was cool. It happened for the first time. There’s no rule against it. There needs to be a rule against this one because I don’t know if you want the whole field riding the wall coming to the checkered flag,”.
Chase Briscoe is impressed with the well-executed move. He is curious about how it will affect the future of racing in such tracks. He said, “It was well-executed on his part. I think all of us have thought about that, just none of us have ever been brave enough to ever try it. I’m very curious to see what kind of hole that opens up,”.
Ryan Blaney said that he will just start to do the same in the coming races. He said, “I guess we’ll all start doing it now coming down to the end of the race,”. NASCAR has pointed out that what Chastain did is wit in the rules. But they are looking into the concerns hared by the cup grid.
