“I told you all week last week that no one is safe,” Chase Elliott on the disappointing g start to his post-season campaign
Chase Elliott
Chase Elliott started the first post-season race at Darlington as the championship favorite as the regular season champion without any doubt was the most impressive driver 6f the 2022 season. But as the race ended, he got downgraded into one among the mid-field runners as a disappointing run cost him the advantage he had over the rest of the grid.
The No:9 Hendrik Motorsport driver got back in the ride back home as his day ended early just before the end of lap 113 as stage one of racing was coming to an end. Chase Elliott spun and hit the protective wall and then slide back into the track only to see Stewart Hass Racing driver Chase Briscoe slamming on his rear.
The No:9 crew failed to get the car ready in 10 mins causing his DNF. After becoming the first playoff entrant of many to have such misfortune on Darlington Chase Elliott left the track early even before the race was coming to an end to get himself ready for the next race and a comeback.
Find out what Chase Elliott said
Chase Elliott revealed that he wasn’t aiming at stage points before his wreck as he was cruising around to the end, as there was no reasonable way he could have gotten the past couple of cars to earn points at that stage.
“In that particular instance of the race, I was just cruising to the stage. We were a couple of spots behind getting stage points, so with that few laps left, I didn’t think it was reasonable to think you were going to go past three more guys and get in the points,” Chase Elliott said.
Chase Elliott said he had nothing he could have done to get out of the race and pointed out that when someone is having a bad day at the track, you fall out of the race. He added that he would get to understand the situation that git his hands tied later and grow from there.
“Honestly, (I) just look at it later because there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. When you have a bad day, and you fall out of the race, yeah, my hands are tied, and at that point, there’s nothing I can do other than just see where it shakes, and then on Monday, just recognize where we are and the situation we’re in and go from there,” Chase Elliott added.
Chase Elliott added that he had told before that no one is going to be safe in the safe playoff, including him, and said that he would continue to have the same mentality going into the next rounds of racing.
“I told you all week last week that no one is safe. And I was including ourselves. I don’t think anybody is safe in any of the rounds. I thought that before Sunday, and I will continue to think that here on Tuesday,” Chase Elliott explained.
