“I’m sure it’s just the crappy parts on the race car,” Kevin Harvick, furious at NASCAR after his car caught on fire in Darlington

While Erik Jones was celebrating his maiden cup win for the Petty GMS Racing, Stewart Hass Racing veteran Kevin Harvick was sitting in his No:4 Garage looking at his burned-out car. The veteran who was high on confidence and ground into the first-round playoff with two successful race wins found himself out of contention after his car caught on fire.
Kevin Harvick registered a P33 finish which puts him alongside the four drivers who are below the cutline for the next rounds of the playoff. He found himself in this awkward situation after his car caught on fire and aflame with just 93 laps left in the race while he was riding with the top five.
Though the No:4 SHR driver continued to drive the car around the track, hoping the fire would come down, it didn’t happen as he was forced to leave the car in the way in the hope it in order to keep himself safe. Now in his post-race interview, the veteran had some furious words to NASCAR as he found himself in the wrong for NASCAR not fixing the Next-Gen car’s safety issues.
Find out what Kevin Harvick said
Kevin Harvick acknowledged that the creepy parts that are used in the car are the major reason for the vehicle getting ablaze and pointed out that the safety stuff is yet to be fixed though such accidents have happened multiple times. He added that the team pushing the car though there were some troubles caused the car to catch fire.
“I’m sure it’s just the crappy parts on the race car like we’ve seen so many times. We haven’t fixed anything. It’s kind of like the safety stuff: We just let it keep going and keep going. And the car started burning, and as it burned, the flames started coming through the dash,” Kevin Harvick said.
Kevin Harvick added that as he started to run more laps, the flame also started increasing and pointed out in the replay of his car catching in a fire that the brake fluid leaking was the probable reason behind the brake line getting burned.
“And I ran a couple of laps, and then, as the flame got bigger, then it started burning stuff up, and I think right there [referencing the replay], you see all the brake fluid that was probably coming out of the brakes. It burned the brake line, but the fire was coming through the dash,” Kevin Harvick added.
Kevin Harvick went on to say that it was a disaster that had happened to them as he was in the pitlane with a burned car without even touching the barrier, saying, “What a disaster, man. No reason. We didn’t touch the wall, we didn’t touch a car, and here we are in the pits with a burned-up car and can’t finish the race during the playoffs because of crappy-ass parts,”.
Kevin Harvick went on to say that he stopped driving the car mid-race after he couldn’t see anything due to the increasing flame saying, “I just stopped. The rocker was on fire for a couple of laps. I just stopped because I couldn’t see anymore because the flames were coming through the dash, and I couldn’t make myself sit in there and burn up,”.
