“It takes away that excitement,” Bubba Wallace, not much fond of NASCAR;’s potentially fielding electric cars in the future
Bubba Wallace
Bubba Wallace, without any doubt divisive figure, if not the devise figure in NASCAR history, as fans have opinions on him compared to other drivers that cover both ends of the spectrum. The sole African American driver on the track has been the flag bearer of NACAR;’s initiatives towards making the sports more inclusive, which has attracted a mixed review from fans.
NASCAR can always go on as what it is right now in both technical as well as a cultural part of the sport. The inclusive and diversity initiatives are part of the drive to make NASCAR more accepting of the changing world culture and the plan to introduce electric or hybrid cars in the near future as the technical side change.
But a majority of the NASCAR fans are fans of the proposed changes as it takes away the history the sports have to build up from and also compromises a huge part of entertainment fans derive from the sound of cars racing on the tracks, something. The electric vehicles lack sound, which makes the races more exciting, as we see in Formula E races, and Bubba Wallace resonates with the opinion of the fans on this matter.

Bubba Wallace was asked a question regarding NASCAR’s future in his interview with the Athletic, to which the No:23 Camry driver gave his thoughts on the electric car’s entry to the sport. He pointed out that he misses the sounds cars produce while racing in Formula E races, pointing out that it can happen in NASCAR if they are to introduce Hybrid or fully electric cars.
“The thing I’m concerned about is if we go hybrid or fully electric. We’re sitting here now, and you’re gonna hear race cars in this (podcast version of the interview), right? That’s cool. We’re at a racetrack. Nothing against Formula E drivers and Formula E teams, but I’ve watched plenty on TV, and I’ve hit the mute button three times before thinking,” Bubba Wallace said.
Bubba Wallace reiterated that the soundless races reduce the entertainment, and he wouldn’t be a fan of that kind of race, saying, “Oh yeah, you don’t hear anything.” It takes away that excitement. So, I don’t know if (NASCAR would) ever go fully electric. Who knows? But I would not be a fan of that,”.
Bubba Wallace explained his point, saying that throughout the years, the sound of the roaring engines on the race tracks has given fans more excitement by getting their blood flowing with the sound. He added that going into the Formula E races, it feels like hearing the electric Golf Kart race, which he isn’t a fan of.
“You have to have sound. I’ve met a lot of people throughout the years who are like, “Man, when you hear those cars crank up, that’s when the blood gets flowing.” When you hear something go (whistles), what is that? I went to a Formula E race, and you stand in the corner and wait for the cars to come, and it sounds like when you’re on the golf course, and the electric golf carts go by,” Bubba Wallace explained.
