Joey Logano who drives the No.22 Ford Mustang for Team Penske as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series competitor and also as a part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driving the No.54 Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing has acquired his second victory this season after winning the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway earlier this year and also won the Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

It was the first time a Cup Series event was held at this 1.25 mile-track which was inaugurated by the stock-car racing legend Richard Petty during a ribbon-cutting ceremony making way for the WWTR to host more Cup Series races in the coming years, it was a pretty intense race up until the very end and the race was forced into an OT with Kevin Harvick smashing into the outside wall off turn 3 with just 5 laps to go.

The restart began with Joey Logano and Joe Gibbs Racing’s No.18 Kyle Busch battling it out for the lead with Logano’s teammate Ryan Blaney in his No.12 Mustang giving the final push for Logano to take the lead and cruise into Victory Lane, Kyle Busch finished second with his brother Kurt Busch, the No.45 from 23X1 Racing finishing 3rd with Blaney at 4th and all in all it was an amazing race at the Gateway with the inaugural Cup Series event.

Joey Logano and Kyle Busch were neck-on-neck in the final laps after the restart and Logano enjoyed racing for the lead with Busch as both of them went at each other and he hopes he was able to put a good show out there for all the fans and he already had a feeling that something like this would happen and, in the end, he was glad he could get another win this season.

“Thanks for coming out, guys. I hope you enjoyed that race. Racing for the lead like that with Kyle, one of the best. It was a lot of fun. Crossing each other back and forth. I knew it was coming. I did it to him; I knew he was going to do it to me. We crossed back and forth there in the last lap there a couple of times. Nice to get a few wins on the season here,” said Joey Logano.

He further added by saying that all the racers had really amazing cars and also said that it is crucial to quickly understand the track and its behavior when it’s a totally new place where the Next-Gen car has also not been and luckily to his and his team’s fortune, all the Team Penske drivers performed well and also thanked his whole crew for their support throughout the race without whom it wouldn’t have been possible.

“I think our team did a great job and they did it quickly. This weekend was kind of different because of the fact that all of us were really good. All of us had really good speed in the car. You have to be so fast when adapting to these new race tracks as far as how you race, call the race, and doing restarts. You have to be open-minded to win at these new venues,” added Joey Logano.

Joey Logano concluded by appreciating what his teammate Ryan Blaney did for him there giving a little push from behind allowing him to take the lead on the restart and bring a victory home for the team and also added that it was a treat to see two Fords leading on the front and that it was really a good time at the track and he hopes to return soon.

That’s what I was hoping, that Blaney would choose with me. He did a good teammate move there and then was able to push me and give Team Penske a chance to win the race. That was cool to see that Ford power lined up on the bottom lining that up. That was special to see. It was a lot of fun to race here, and looking forward to coming back,” concluded Joey Logano.

With Joey Logano acquiring his second win this season, he sits 6th in the points table with a guaranteed playoff spot and a potential shot at the championship.
