Defending Cup champion Joey Logano of Team Penske Racing had a hilarious moment after the Chicago Cup race, which saw him secure a P8 finish after starting the race in ninth. He failed to pronounce race winner Shane van Gisbergen’s name while praising the Kiwi driver on his historic win at the 2.2 miles tracks.

van Gisbergen became the first driver to win a Cup race as a debutant since the 1963 Daytona dual win by James Rutherford. He is only the seventh driver to do so. In his post-race interview, the No:22 Ford driver was praising the speed the three times supercar champion was able to drive on the track.

Logano said, “Whatever his name is…,” to which the reporter replied, “SVG,” the champion driver’s nickname indicating she wasn’t sure about the pronunciation. Logano said, “Shane Von…hamburger,” he had a cheeky smile on his face while adding, “he was super-fast”.

While it might have been a deliberate attempt to make a joke or a genuine young slip from the two times Cup champion, Shane van Gisbergson has earned the respect of the Cup garage and fans who doubted him before entering the race. He used his street racing expertise to the fullest against the street course rookies in Cup regulars and took the risks that delivered rewards, which is the win.

NASCAR spend $50 million to make the Chicago Street race a possibility. To attract new fans and explore new frontiers, Joey Logano believed that the vent was a success. When asked about his opinion on a second season at Chicago, he pointed out that it’s not up to him but added that the event was a success according to him.

It’s not up to me. I thought as far as an event, for NASCAR, I think it was a total success from that standpoint. I think the racing was probably pretty decent, too. I don’t even get to see a part of the race – I was inside the car. It was probably a better race than I think,” Logano said.

The fans did lose a lot of memorable moments they could have had due to the storm. The pre-race concerts were canceled, and the race was cut short to 75 laps. Xfinity Series, which didn’t even complete half its scheduled laps, was canceled, and Cole Custer was awarded the win.
