The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series champion, Joey Logano, has secured a playoff spot this season. He won the 2023 Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and became eligible for the playoffs. The 33-year-old looked as relaxed as he could be in a recent interview and discussed his true feelings on the number of road course races in the Cup Series. NASCAR, known for its oval tracks, has observed an increase in road course races over the years.
Joey Logano spoke to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about how he feels there are too many road courses. However, he is not the only one who feels so. Other drivers like Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson feel the same. This season marks the record of six road courses on the NASCAR Cup schedule. Some drivers believe it is an overkill and have raised concerns.
Joey Logano told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, “I think there are too many road courses if you ask. There’s one thing that I’ve thought, which is there’s not enough cautions in the races like it was at the Watkins Glen. No one’s gonna want to go anymore, we’ll go back to running more oval races like we should.” It is safe to say Logano prefers ovals to road courses.

Logano added, “Three. Sonoma, Watkins Glen and Chicago.I think that’s what we should do. I think Chicago is a win for the sport, not that I really loved the street course racing aspect of it but I thought what it did for our sport was tremendous, so that part was a win. Taking my personal preferences out of it and what’s best for the sport, those would be the three.”
The three tracks Joey Logano named are known to be iconic. NASCAR ran its first-ever Chicago street course race this season on 3rd July. It was one of the most talked about races worldwide as it had a new winner who is not a Cup regular, Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen. Logano believes the Chicago road course is a win for the sport and should be retained if they consider eliminating other road courses.
Joey Logano echoed Busch and Keselowski’s feelings on the number of road course races. Though they want road courses to remain on the calendar, the drivers feel six is preposterous. Logano named those three tracks because he believed that they would have a positive impact on the sport. It remains to be seen whether the sanctioning body will listen to its drivers and reduce the number of road course races.
