The 2024 season so far hasn’t been kind to two times NASCAR Cup champion Joey Logano. The Team Penske driver is yet to secure a top-5 finish this season and has scored a finish worse of P20 on four out of the six Cup races he has started in. Poor execution and misfortune have been the main headache for the Ford driver so far.
But Joey Logano isn’t someone who is going to easily give up and in a recent interview he has asserted that he is not in any panic mode over the poor streak. He is confident that everything will average out for the No:22 Mustang team soon and hence isn’t panicking about the situation despite concerns.
The speed knob is one of them that we have to tune up the most right now because that’s the one that puts you in position the most. I’m not in panic mode. I’m concerned, obviously, by where we’re at but I’m not in panic mode. Everything usually averages out.Joey Logano told RACER.
Logano and co are confident that they can climb back to the front slowly but surely. With 20 more races left in the regular season and the years of experience the Penske crew has, the Connecticut native soon will be making a comeback. If he fails to do so, then it would be the end of the season for him.
Joey Logano admits that Ford teams aren’t maximizing their cars performance
Logano and all the other Ford drivers were given a new Ford Mustang Dark Horse body for the 2024 season. This put the team in a tough situation as the new car design has forced them to make a lot of changes in other components. He has admitted that the teams haven’t yet understood the new car enough.
I think in some ways there’s definitely some gains (with the new body), and in other ways, I don’t think we’re maximizing the potential out of the car yet because I don’t think we completely understand everything about it.Joey Logano said.
All these challenges shouldn’t be an excuse for a team, who has won the last two Cup titles, like Penske. They have to find out the root of the poor performance soon and step up, if they want to continue the Next-Gen era championship streak.
