“Just do a better job again, the same conversation as Road America” Chase Elliott was frustrated with the “poor effort” that cost him the win once again

Chase Elliott

Chase Elliott has been among the most consistent and high-performing cup drivers of the 2022 season as he tops the championship table with a good lead on Ross Chastain at P2, as he is the only driver in the grid to have won 3 cup races this season. But the winning tally would gave been 5 for the HMS driver as he has landed his No:9 Camaro ZL1 on P2 two times so far in the last three races in which he has won two.

Going into the New Hampshire Motor Speedway with the incredible set of consecutive top 2 finishes Chase Elliott was all set to take home the 11-pound lobster in Loudoun following his Atlanta win but the 2020 champion was topped and held off by JGR driver Christopher Bell to in New Hampshire as he finished P2 four seconds back of the leader. Though he once again finished as the top chevy and increased his chances for the regular season championship he had the real opportunity with him to win the race.

Chase Elliott drove his Hendrick Motorsports car with real passion in New Hampshire and had to battle his way to the top against the front-running Toyotas at the track.  He was battling for P2 with Bubba Wallace at the start of the race and was the first one to lead away from Kurt Busch in front of Bell who later topped Elliott to a win. If not for a couple of small mistakes on his part in the last laps he would have surely had a chance at winning.

Chase Elliott acknowledged that he had to do a better job once again as unfortunately, the race end the same way it did for him two weekends ago at Road America. He pointed out that he had poor runoff execution throughout the last lap run and pointed out that he might have gone a little too harder on his car when he ran to overtake Joey Logano and Kurt Busch for the lead. He also suggested that he just made a couple of mistakes that didn’t give him any breathing space to make efficient amendments.

Just do a better job again, same conversation as Road America, unfortunately. I felt like just a poor run of execution on my end throughout that last run. I feel like it took me a while to get past Joey and the 45 and had to run a little harder than I wanted to and then got in front of those guys and just made a couple of mistakes and couldn’t get much breathing room,” Chase Elliott said.

Chase Elliott went on to say that Christopher Bell did a great job as he deserves appreciation for staying that close to winning throughout and finally doing it. He once again reiterated that he put in a poor effort as he was closed down that easily by Bell during the race which he converted into a huge lead that helped him win the race.

Christopher did a good job. Congrats to those guys. I know they’ve stayed close to winning, so that’s cool. But obviously, for us, we were in a position where guys at this level really should close out a race if you’ve got the lead like that. Just a poor effort on my part,” Chase Elliott added.

Chase Elliott went on to say that it’s important to finish the race at the top if you are in the position to do so which he didn’t do and pointed out that the top two didn’t say the whole story of the race. He pointed out that he has been making such mistakes for the last couple of races giving away wins in the process which he doesn’t want to happen again and get cleaned up for future races.

Yeah, but when you’re in a position like we’ve been in, you need to finish them off. The top two don’t tell the whole story. Sometimes you’ve got to step back and look at the reality of it, and the reality is I’ve given away a couple of races just by making too many mistakes. You don’t want to have that. Try to clean it up for these final events,” Chase Elliott Explained.
