Stewart Hass Racing Kevin Harvick will mark the final race of his NASCAR career, as announced at the start of the season, at the Phoenix Cup season finale. He will move on from racing and is set to take up a role as a race analyst at Fox Sports. Harvick will also invest his time nurturing young talents alongside his Keelan in karting and CARS Tour.
Harvick, who came to the sport as the replacement of Dale Earnhardt’s replacement following his tragic death, has had a career that justified his selection. He won over 60 Cup races and the 2014 Cup title in his career that lasted 22 years. Harvick has secured a spot in the Hall of Fame, and the only thing stopping his entry is the three-year gap post-retirement needed to be eligible for nomination.
While discussing his retirement and life after that, Harvick recalled a piece of advice he got from former rival and JGR legend Carl Edwards. He revealed that Edwards explained to him how invaluable will be the time he will have to spend with his loved ones once he retires. Edwards highlighted how much it will change the racer’s life, as the usual hectic NASCAR schedule is no longer part of it.
I talked to Carl Edwards last week, and he’s like, ‘Kevin, I can’t tell you how much more in-tune you’re going to be with your kids and your family and the conversations that you have when you don’t have to think about everything else that you have going on with that car, and that team and those sponsors and those people.’…
Harvick told Fox Sports.
What will Kevin Harvick miss the most once he retires?
In the same interview, Harvick was asked what he would miss the most once he retires from the sport. Ironically, it’s the same thing that he will miss and won’t miss the most. He will miss that factor of his life once he retires.
Harvick highlighted that the competition is the aspect of NASCAR he will miss the most. He loves working with his team and tackling these challenges with his crew. But he doesn’t want it in his life as well because it consumes his whole day.
I love the competition with people. I love being around my team and the guys and gals that put the cars on the racetrack. Love that piece of competing. But it’s also the thing that I’m looking forward to the most — not having to worry about it. Because it consumes you for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In case you missed it:
