Homestead Miami has announced that they will honor the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, who is set to retire from the sport at the end of the 2023 season, by renaming the playoff R-8 race at the track. With the partnership Mobil 1, the sponsor for the race, the event was named 4Ever 400.

Harvick, driving the No:4 Ford Mustang for Stewart Haas Racing and 4Ever, has been the catchphrase of all the activities to honor him in the final season of his career. With Harvick being winless this season, Miami will be the track he could secure the elusive win and avoid the disappointment of ending his career with a winless season.

While talking about the change in a video shared on X, he admitted that it’s cool and that what Miami did is the biggest retirement surprise gift he got so far. He added that the tracks and sponsors have given him great surprises. Harvick said that he had never expected such a surprise from the track.

That is really cool. The 4Ever 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. That is definitely top of the list for the surprises of the year. You never know what’s coming next, and the year has just been filled with great support from sponsors and fans, and race tracks. To have the 4Ever 400 race title is something I didn’t expect. So, thank you, Mobil 1, and this is going to be fun,” Harvick said in a video shared on X.

Why did Homestead decide to rename the race?

Al Garcia, President of Homestead-Miami Speedway, pointed out that honoring Happy Harvick with the race title is a testament to his NASCAR legacy. He said, “It’s really special to honor Kevin Harvick with the 4EVER 400 Presented by Mobil 1, and it’s a testament to the legacy he will leave for future drivers in the sport for years to come.”

They wanted to honor him at Miami since that’s where he won his maiden title in 2014. He said, “Harvick cemented his place in the sport’s history at our track in taking the checkered flag and the Cup Series championship here a decade ago. We are thrilled to honor him and his racing legacy at the track where it all began.”

The remaining four races this year, potentially the final races of Kevin Harvick’s NASCAR career, will be hosted by Homestead, Martinsville, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. He has won Cup events in all four tracks. The entire SHR garage and most of the NASCAR fan base hope he could repeat it once before saying goodbyes.
