NASCAR will mark history next week in Chicago as the sport will host its first-ever street course race. The sanctioning body is hoping to put on a show at the 12-turned temporary track and is also hoping to garner the interest of a new set of fans. With the sharp turns and long straightaways at the track, chaos is guaranteed on the race day, and Kyle Busch believes that it will be important for the event’s success.

With it being the street course debut of Next-Gen cars, the cup grid is in for a challenge like never before. It’s not just the Cup drivers that will tackle the challenges at Chicago. Seven times champion Jimmie Johnson will drive the No:84 Chevy of Legacy MC, while 2009 f1 World Champion Jenson Button will drive for RWR. Supercar Legend Shane van Gisbergen will make his Cup debut with Trackhouse.

When asked about what will make the Chicago event a success, Kyle Busch pointed out that track action and a bit of chaos will make it memorable for fans. He admitted that the driver might not like it. The two times Cup champion backed his argument by pointing to the first corner pile-up that made IndyCar’s Nashville debut memorable.

To me, action – having a good race and story to tell about a street course. You know, I looked at the INDYCAR race from Nashville the first year they did it. They had that big pileup and about blocked the track…things like that,”  Kyle Busch said.

It’s not action that us drivers want to see, but fans kind of sometimes enjoy calamity. And that then turns into a social moment where they’re like – hey, check this out. If we’re those guys, then so be it, and that’s kind of where it’ll lay,” Kyle Busch added.

Busch revealed he has never experienced street course race in the premier divisions of stock cars as such races had never occurred before. He revealed he had spotted his brother and 2004 Cup champion Kurt Busch in a Southwest Tour running the streets of LA Street race.

It’s a spectacle, right? It’s something that I don’t think NASCAR has ever done in a long, long time – the Cup Series, if ever, I’m not sure. I know the Southwest Tour ran the streets of LA a long, long time ago in 1998. I actually spotted for my brother there. But this will be my first time ever racing on a street course and something of this nature,” Busch said.

Since making his Richard Childress Racing debut this season, Busch has been one of the most impressive drivers in the garage. He has scored three wins this season and is the leading candidate to secure the title. A solid race at Chicago will help him in the Cup chase.
