Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch made some huge business decisions since making his NASCAR debut with the No:8 team of Richard Childress Racing. One of those major decisions was selling his championship-winning Truck Series team, Kyle Busch Motorsports. Busch sold the race shop and company assets to Spire Motorsports for $14.5 million.
Spire acquired the KBM shop as part of their expansion project to become a three-car operation and race-win contender. During the NASCAR production days, Busch confirmed that despite the sale, KBM, which has given Toyota some of its best drivers, will continue its operations outside the NASCAR national series.
The No:8 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver pointed out that the team, which now has a small number of employees, will field cars for him and his son, Brexton Busch, at the grassroots level of the sport. But Busch misses his times with his team over the years, winning races and working with his crew from the beginning.
I definitely miss the Truck Series team a little bit. KBM still exists. We’re just racing at the grassroots level with me and Brex. But I’m obviously missing the people that were there and going into the shop and seeing them every single day or every week or whatever it might have been. That’s the part that I feel like I was going to miss from the start and kind of still do a little bit.Busch told Fox Sports (H&T: On3.com).
Kyle Busch is having a less stressful life after the KBM sale
Busch further discusses how the sale of KBM has changed his life. He pointed out that his life now has become less stressful, enabling him to have more meaningful time with his family. He now also has time to work on his race cars himself.
It’s also a little bit less stressful of just having two or three guys that I got to deal with now that I’m able to go into our [family] shop and just kind of work on cars myself and do some things. I’ve been the decal guy. I’ve been the fabricator. I’ve been the welder. I’ve been the engineer. We’re working on everything right now.
Busch now has more time to work on his racing with RCR, which will give him the time to redeem himself after the disappointing end of his RCR debut season. He had an impressive start to the year with three wins, but toward the end of the season, the team’s performance stalled and resulted in his early playoff exit.
