Two times NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Busch qualified eighteenth for the inaugural Chicago Street Race last weekend. The Richard Childress Racing driver looked forward to the historic event and finished fifth. Though the street course race initially received skepticism, the drivers and fans grew fond of it quickly. Busch started from P18, made a good recovery, and ended the race on a high note. However, the race wasn’t only smooth for the No.8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver.
Busch faced a few challenges during NASCAR’s Inaugural Street race. He brought out the first caution of the race in the opening laps. Busch slid off the wet track and hit the barrier in turn six. Despite the damage, his No.8 Chevy could continue, and he had a brilliant finish to NASCAR’s first-ever Chicago Street race. The fans were impressed with the two-time Cup series champion’s drive and cheered for him. However, Busch reveals that there was one negative from the race.
It has been a week since the race, and the drivers have had time to process what they felt about the Chicago weekend. While gearing up for the upcoming Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch spoke about his Chicago race. He talked about the only negative of the event. Busch told the media in Atlanta, “But probably the only negative was just the weather. I thought everything else about it was really good.” Understandably, he did not like the weather as he slid off the wet track during the race.

Kyle Busch wants the race organizers to add more tire barriers for the safety of the drivers. He believes it works well as the cars continue with less damage. Busch speaks from experience as he hit the tire barrier in turn six during the race. He was able to continue and finish fifth despite the wreck. This explains that the tire barrier served its purpose and was efficient.
Busch said, “Practice went off pretty well. There was definitely some areas of the track where you could use a tire barrier- I obviously was a tester of those and that seemed to work really well and that our cars can continue with little damage. But just a couple of sports that probably could use more or any, to begin with.”
Overall, Busch claimed NASCAR’s first-ever Street race went well. He also revealed that the team hotels were within walking distance. Rowdy had a good outing last weekend, and he hopes to have a strong weekend at Georgia to further strengthen his third Cup championship chase.
