NASCAR has been a prominent name in motorsports racing for decades and is a synonym for the ultimate stock car racing experience.  The two lower division national series, the organization host offers the upcoming drivers a chance to make it to the top, the cup series. But not all drivers that make it in the lower series make it to the cup series or make a name for themselves there even if they get a chance.

AJ Allmendinger, the full-time Xfinity Series driver for Koulig Racing No:16 car and a part-time cup entrant with the same team, is one among those drivers who, though dominates the lower divisions failed to make it at the top. The two-time cup race winner who has made 386 cup series starts couldn’t establish himself as a top contender even though he got opportunities with Team Penske, JDR, and many other cup teams.

But when it comes to the Xfinity series it’s a different story, the veteran has won 13 races in just 77 starts he made with in the last eight years and has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the series. The veteran also has earned the accolade of being one of the best Road Course Racers of NASCAR; the reason why most of his cup starts right now is on road courses.

Now Kyle Larson, No:5 HMS Chevy driver and reigning cup champion, who held back AJ Allmendinger to win the Watkins Glen cup race on Sunday, has come forth to express his thoughts on the veteran. Larson has given the Koulig Racing driver the label of one of the most underrated drivers in NASCAR.

Kyle Larson acknowledged that he always had a lot of respect for AJ Allmendinger and pointed out that he does a really good job in the NASCAR Xfinity series. He added that regardless of the series the veteran is driving in, he is among the most underrated drivers he has come across in the NASCAR grid that he has raced against.

I’ve always had a lot of respect for AJ. He does a really good job in the Xfinity Series, but I feel like he’s one of if not the most underrated guys in the NASCAR, any series in NASCAR, of my career that I’ve had in stock cars,” Kyle Larson said.

Kyle Larson went on to say that one can tell when drivers are excellent and pointed out that it’s amazing to see someone like AJ coming out on top in every form of road course racing. He added that AJ usually carries the car in Xfinity oval races as he outruns his teammates majority of the times.

You can just tell when drivers are really good. For AJ to put himself in position every single time on a road course, whether it be any series that he’s in, is amazing. As good of a job as he does in the Xfinity Series on ovals, I feel he really carries that car a lot of times. You can compare him to his teammates, and he’s always outrunning them. I feel like that’s a good way to kind of judge how good a driver is,” Kyle Larson added.

Kyle Larson went on to acknowledge once again that he doesn’t have any doubt that if AJ had resources as he has in HMS, he would be racing for wins each and every time. Kyle Larson added that AJ is someone who gets better in every race, and that he loves to race the veteran.

“There’s no doubt in my mind if he was in equipment equal to mine, he would be winning races frequently. He continues to get better. I love getting the chance to race him,”Kyle Larson explained.
